A broad group of local residents – called Residents Against Clouds Hill Farm Development – has now mobilised to fight the proposed Clouds Hill Farm Development. FEDORA has been providing support, which includes making available the services of the independent traffic consultant retained by FEDORA, and the group has asked FEDORA to provide the message shown below to our members and supporters. The site is located just off the Leatherhead Road to the south of the village on green belt land and proposes c250 dwellings. A map of potential development sites around Oxshott can be found at https://fedora.org.uk/green-belt . The Clouds Hill Farm development is on the site designated SA-5.
As we have explained previously, development proposals of this nature are facilitated by a combination of changes in national Government policy and the absence of an agreed local plan for Elmbridge, meaning that developers are able to put forward development proposals in locations that might not historically have been considered suitable. Local residents can, therefore, expect further development attempts in other locations in and around Oxshott, as we have seen with the current proposed 250 – 300 dwelling Paddocks development off Blundel Lane. Clearly, Oxshott faces an enormous challenge that could irretrievably change its character given the impact that proposed developments of this scale will have on the village and the quality of all residents daily lives.
Message from Residents Against Clouds Hill Farm Development………
The campaign’s website https://www.protectoxshott.com/ sets out more details of the proposed 23-hectare development on a plot which currently comprises two residential properties, stables, a barn, grasslands, grazing pastures and woodlands: Anyone wishing to sign up to receive updates can do so via the campaign site by using the ‘subscription’ button at the bottom of the page.
We understand outline planning permission has already been submitted to EBC Planning Department by the developer, and following validation of the application, it is expected to be made available shortly for public comment and review. The group has already begun its communications campaign and will be taking professional advice to fight the proposal and raise strong policy-based arguments against it. This will require funding to be successful.
