New signage is coming to make it easier to find Oxshott’s Steel’s Lane car park
What’s happening
Over the next few weeks, the Council plans to introduce clearer, more consistent signs guiding drivers to the Steel’s Lane car park. The aim is simple: help people find parking quickly, use council car parks appropriately, and keep traffic flowing more smoothly.
The aim and objectives
The Steel’s Lane Signage Improvement Plan has three main goals:
– Improve how visible and consistent car park signs are across Oxshott.
– Reduce congestion caused by drivers circling while they look for spaces.
– Support better traffic management and create a more pleasant experience for visitors and residents alike.
In short, it’s about making it obvious where to park.
Where new signs will go
To guide drivers more effectively, new signs will be installed in the following locations:
– On the High Street, clearly indicating the direction of the Steel’s Lane car park.
– On Warren Lane, before the turning that leads to the car park, giving drivers early notice.
– On Steel’s Lane itself, alerting eastbound drivers that the car park is nearby.
These changes are designed to make the route to the car park intuitive, even for people who don’t know the area well.
What the signs will look like
All new signs will be:
– Simple and easy to read at a glance.
– Highly visible from the road.
– Arrow-shaped, each featuring a blue “P” symbol so drivers immediately recognise them as parking signs.
Taken together, these improvements should make it easier to park in Oxshott, reduce unnecessary congestion, and support a more orderly flow of traffic around the village.
