We expressed our disappointment last year on the lack of coordination between Surrey County Council and National Highways regarding the risks to Oxshott and Cobham during the three year construction phase of this major project.
FEDORA joined a recent call with our two local Surrey Councillors, the Surrey Cabinet member now responsible for highways and two employees of the construction company (representing National Highways) to discuss the current situation and how things can best be improved. It was reconfirmed that the A244 though Oxshott will not be a designated diversion route but it is accepted that nothing has been done, and in practice little can be done, to prevent vehicles choosing to divert onto the A244. Measures have however been agreed to improve communications between Surrey and National Highways and to keep local residents better informed.
National Highways has established a dedicated website for this project which can be accessed here https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-roads/south-east/m25-junction-10/. This is regularly updated. It is also possible on this page to sign up for a monthly newsletter which highlights future activity. Two key developments just implemented:
- Narrow lanes and reduced speed limits have been introduced on the A3 around Junction 10. This is supported by average speed cameras.
- At various night times during January 2023, sections of the A3 will be closed at night. Of most relevance to Oxshott residents is the southbound closures in late January from the A244 junction which will prevent southbound access to the A3 from the A244 and Painshill junctions. Signage further north will be used to divert M25 traffic via the A243 to junction 9.
